Douglas Falls’ Glowing Rocks

Douglas Falls’ Glowing Rocks

Douglas Falls is located near Thomas, West Virginia. The North Fork of the Blackwater River flows over the falls and the rocks are a vivid shade of burnt orange due to runoff from old mines and coke ovens. Depending on recent rainfall, the rocks may be easily crossed or may not be visible due to the turbulence of raging rapids. Railroad ties line the bank where the Davis Coal & Coke Co. trains accessed the mine and tipple at the now abandoned town of Coketon.
