The Skating Pond

Amish ice skaters take to the pond on a snowy day in this scene that brings to mind another era. This farm is the original farm of Jonas Stutzman, the first white man to settle in the Indian country of Eastern Holmes County, Ohio and the first Amish man in the county. Fall Buggy

Fall Buggy

We had to wait quite a while for the Amish church to let out so we could include a buggy in this picturesque fall scene. Each Amish church is defined by an ordnung (set of rules or order), androtates their service among different homes of their members every other week. Special wagons are used to carry their church benches between these constantly changing locations. View OPTIONS to see framing options and the location of the hidden state.

An Amish Morning Stroll

An Amish Morning Stroll

A fine dusting of morning fog still highlights the grass in this Amish country scene. Early morning is the best time to see the buggies on the back roads. View OPTIONS to see framing options and the location of the hidden state.

Best Buddies

Best Buddies

These two Amish boys brought a smile to our faces as they waved and passed by in their horse-drawn cart. Close together on the wooden bench seat, in bright-colored shirts and suspenders, they continued on their way down a dusty back road in Amish country. Early Morning Visit

Early Morning Visit

The frost was heavy and the mist blanketed the fields on this early morning in Ohio‘s Amish Country. The soft light caught our attention. As we pulled off the road for a better look, we were rewarded with an Amish buggy pulling into our picturesque scene. View OPTIONS to see framing options and the location of the hidden state.

Peek!

Peek!

This little Amish boy caught us by surprise when he peeked out the buggy window on a rainy afternoon. Amish children are often curious of the “English.” Amish Country holds a fascination for us with its beautiful farms, quaint country roads and the unique people who live in harmony with the land. Dressing Frosty

Dressing Frosty

This group of Amish children was enjoying the fresh fallen snow by making a snowman. Sometimes we see full snowmen families created along back roads of the Amish Country of Ohio. Amish Photography by Morehead Photography. View OPTIONS to see framing options and the location of the hidden state.

Long Walk Home

Long Walk Home

This Amish family was making a cold walk home after church. When the snow becomes deep enough, there are a few families which still like to hitch up their old sleighs. Seeing a sleigh is rare because an early morning snowfall may be melted off by the time church lets out and sleighs become stranded at their church barns. Amish Snow Buggy

Amish Snow Buggy

We captured this Amish buggy sitting out in the freshly fallen snow one crisp January day. The Amish will use their buggies until the snow deepens enough to hitch a sleigh - but only if snow is deep and weather cold enough to keep them gliding. Buggies may be cold inside on a winter‘s ride but a few blankets on the legs and lap make them much more appealing than walking.

Amish Photography

As you drive through Amish country, everywhere you look there are gently rolling fields, well-tended farmlands, winding country lanes, quaint black horse-drawn Amish buggies, and the unique, hard-working people who care for the land. It’s like stepping back into another time. We spend days driving the back roads on our mission to capture this rich heritage with our Amish photography. At the end of the day, when work is done, we enjoy steaming plates of Amish comfort foods, visits with old friends, and quiet evenings. We hope our Amish Photography gallery inspires your own visit to this unique area.
