Elakala's Mossy Steps

This is the second falls on Shays Run, often referred to as Elakala Falls #2, located in the Blackwater Falls State Park of West Virginia. The dense canopy overhead creates a shaded retreat full of ferns and vivid green moss which lines cascading steps. Water trickles and then plummets down to the Blackwater Canyon — a flow which begins with a sheer drop off Elakala #3 just below these peaceful steps and rages hundreds of bushwhacking feet below into The Blackwater River.
