Elkala Icicles

This first fall of Elkala Falls on Shays Run is located in the Blackwater Falls State Park of West Virginia. Venturing down the steep bank to get to the base of Elkala Falls was a very slow team effort over icy rocks with no clues what might be under our boots. Being very cold, -2° with a -18° wind chill, the falls were almost frozen over to match our fingers on shutters. The icicles on the right are not part of the falls so we were amazed that the natural forest run-off created such huge icicles.
